Dub Pistols live feat. Rodney P
The British formation Dub Pistols will participate at Park Live festival. They will be accompanied by the man who left the most serious footprint in British hip-hop - Rodney P.
Almost 20 years now Dub Pistols continue to surprise us with their unbelievable creativity and sense for the new and interesting. The band is formed in the mid 90s by Barry Ashworth who at that time was mad about big beat, the 50s ska culture, punk and of course reggae. All this influences the sound of the band which develops and gives a new energy to dub music in the new century.
For the last 15 years, Dub Pistols have released 5 albums. The one called Rum & Coke is more lyrical and gives a prerequisite for collaborations with artists such as Ashley Slater from Freak Power, Gregory Isaacs, Lindy Layton and the acid house pioneer Justin Robertson. The sound of this albums borders with modern pop but with the so well known dose of quality and humor.
The album "Worshipping The Dollar" was released this year and follow the trend of the previous one - preserving the lyrical style but implementing more club rhythms including a few drum'n'bass tracks.
Dub Pistols' music is part of many box office movies like BLADE II, Bad Company and Mystery Man, as well as the soundtracks of the electronic games Tony Hawk, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NBA, Fifa and Final Flight. What makes them one of the most desired formation is their great feeling for party for which last year they received DJ MAG's award for Best Live Act. There are just a few bands that can heat up a festival crowd the way Dub Pistols do it, elegantly mixing ska, dub, hip-hop and electronic sound. This might also be the reason for them being one of the regular guests on some of the most prestigious festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Glade, Beautiful Day, Rock Ness and Bloom.
During their visit to Park Live, Dub Pistols will be accompanied by Rodney P - one of the most important names for British hip-hop, who significantly promoted the development of this genre in the last 20 years. Born in a family of London immigrants, Rodney P, better know as The Riddim Killa in the clubbing sphere is one of the first MCs who becomes popular in the end of the 80s. He was part of London Pose - the first officially formed British hip-hop band in the 90s Rodney P participates on one stage with such as Soul II Soul and NWA, while his creativity inspires and helps the development of the whole British hip-hop scene. Despite his great success and even commercialism,Rodney P remains independent and manages his own indy label.
He has worked with names like Bjork, Roni Size, Roots Manuva, The Nextmen, Dynamite MC and in recent years he appears on one stage with artists like Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Jazzy Jeff and Mos Def.
Between 2002 and 2007 together with his long-term partner DJ Skitz, Rodney P is a BBC Radio 1 host of the Xtra show. Currently Rodney P is also a TV host of the show "Dubplate Drama" on Channel 4.
This year we expect the release of Rodney P's new project - Sleeping Giantz where we see more names like Zed Bias and Falacy. Dub Pistols' show featuring Rodney P will be unique for Bulgaria. It will get together one of the most influential British dub and reggae formations with the man who made UK hip-hop famous worldwide.
